Deskripsi Buku

JUDUL: AFTER THE GUNS FALL SILENT: Women, Violence, and the Politics of Peace in Post-Conflict Aceh

PENULIS:

Khairul Hasni

SINOPSIS:

This book examines the impact of the protracted conflict on the people of Aceh, highlighting the trauma and economic hardships endured by the community and women in particular. In the post-conflict recovery process, the tsunami disaster and the signing of the Helsinki MoU paved the way for rehabilitation, enhanced community participation, and economic revitalization.

The book details efforts to rebuild social, political, and economic life and community institutions, as well as initiatives for victim recovery and the strengthening of local governance. By highlighting women’s voices and everyday forms of resilience, the book argues that peacebuilding cannot be considered successful if women remain excluded from its benefits and institutions. It calls for gender-responsive policies, meaningful participation, protection from violence, and stronger support for women’s empowerment in post-war societies. Particular attention is given to the role and limitations of the Aceh Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) in documenting violations, recognizing victims, promoting public acknowledgment, and supporting reconciliation.

The book also analyzes the interplay between transitional justice, local governance, Islamic law, women’s participation, youth engagement, and sustainable peacebuilding. It is intended for readers interested in gender, conflict, human rights, and post-conflict reconstruction and serves as a resource for researchers, students, policymakers, peacebuilding practitioners, and humanitarian organizations.
